This oak-aged Chardonnay is one of the finest we've tasted from Argentina, with buttery aromas, a touch of citrus, and elegant oak. We also think it's great with sesame chicken. Mendoza leading light Susana Balbo crafted it from the impeccable fruit of Patricio Gouguenheim's 'Valle Escondido' ('Hidden Valley') vineyards in high, cool Tupungato, where grape-growing conditions are just about perfect. Sidewood Estate is a privately owned vineyard, nestled in the cool climate region of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. Owen and Cassandra Inglis purchased the estate from the Lloyd Family of Coriole in 2004. All of their grapes are carefully hand-picked from selected rows across their 300 acre estate. The aim is to create stylish and elegant wines that are focused on quality and underpinned by the impeccable wine making skills of Natasha Mooney. Leaving behind careers in medicine and molecular biology, Doctors John and Brigid Forrest established Forrest Estate in Marlborough's stony Wairau River Valley (not a million miles from Cloudy Bay) in 1989. This cheery pair won a coup at their first vintage, scooping a trophy for their Sauvignon at NZ's national wine awards. New Seidelberg winemaker Cerina De Jongh's CV reads encouragingly: top of her year at Elsenburg College, hired by high-profile Grangehurst and veteran of vintages the world over. She's thriving at this idyllic estate, founded in 1680 on the southern slopes of the Paarlberg, and now owned by German émigré Roland Seidel. Corte d'Aibo ('aibus' is Latin for 'shelter') is smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Monteveglio Abbey regional park, a day's hike from Bologna.
